Will it work?

Do detoxes or cleanses actually work?  My answer is… sometimes.

I do a Reset every year and absolutely love it.   I do it for that exact purpose, a reset.  When a “treat” becomes a spoon of raw honey instead of a bowl of ice cream with a brownie on top.

When I’m eager to reset,  I’ll try those new recipes filled with veggies and healthy fats that I normally wouldn’t have taken the time to try.  I’ll get daily exercise because my body craves it.

The desire to cleanse comes from deep in our bones.  Our ancestors did it because they needed to remove parasites as well as help the blood flow better after eating the stored fats of winter.  Now, we still have seasonal cravings within our systems.  Something about beginning a new year or any paradigm shift leaves me ready to reset.  And that’s the moment for me to develop new patterns.  To fill my body with nourishment and help it release that which doesn’t serve my best health.

So that’s why I say a cleanse works sometimes.  It depends on how and when you do it.  Unhealthy diets, no.  A self inflicted punishment in the form of a detox… no.  Healthy shifts when you are craving change… of course!

Here’s to a healthier you. You and this beautiful body that carries you on this Earth walk deserve that.

12 day Deep Cleanse: Release Restore Reset

For the entire 12 days:

Less/No alcohol, fried foods, processed sugar, artificial flavors and colors (example: look on labels and seek beet extract as a form of red instead of red dye 40), harsh cleaning chemicals or body products

More organic and/or local produce, movement, deep breathing, morning sun on your eyes, rest, laughter, nature walks, warm epsom salt baths

Day 1-3

Focus- Nourishing the body.  Receive abundance.  Fill yourself with nourishment and love.  You have possibly eaten a more than normal recently but the actual nutritional content was low.  Digestive juices may be off due to over eating so heartburn may be present and your body may not be adequately assimilating the nutrients it is being offered due to deficient digestion. Its time to stimulate digestion and nourish deeply.

How- Love on the liver and digestive system to better process and assimilate during digestion.  Take in lots of deeply nourishing foods and beverages to strengthen the body, enabling an effective release.

Plan-

Tea- Wildly Healthy and Woodland Roast herbal tea.

Wildly Healthy herbal tea 1 bag per day for 3 days offering deep, easily assimilated vitamins and minerals.  The wild weeds offer the most amazing multivitamin that the body absorbs as real food… because it is!

Woodland Roast herbal tea 1 bag with no sweetener for 3 days.  Allow the dandelion root and other bitter herbs to nourish the liver as well as stimulate digestion and assimilation.  The slightly bitter taste is needed for best results.

1) Ideally begin the day with a warm glass of water and squeeze of ¼ lemon. This supports the liver in producing needed enzymes.  It also helps to flush eliminatory systems by breaking up mucus deposits.

2) Follow it up with your typical morning beverage if you want.  If you are choosing to change that beverage, I do really like our Roots Revival blend because it offers some caffeine through the Yerba mate leaf as well as some roasty flavor, but it is also loaded with liver tonic herbs to give the liver love very first thing in the morning.  Green tea is another wonderful option due to its overall health benefits, energy with a calmness magic, and blood sugar balancing abilities.  Once you have got your energy boost you choose, its time to begin your tea regime for the day.

3) Choose either Woodland Roast or Wildly Healthy.  Drink this through the day, resteeping as you wish.  Eat well.  Eat plenty.  Eat with intention.  Its time to try new recipes filled with veggies.  Try to not pair meat with carbs as the pair slows digestion.  If you are eating chicken, pair it with veggies- not rice or bread.  Example- stir fried chicken with broccoli and red peppers (no rice) OR a veggie stir fry over rice.

4) Get some movement in your day. Here is some advice from Brittany Anderson, Nurse Practitioner, Integrative Health Coach and Functional Medicine Nurse.  “When going through a reset one of the most important things to prioritize is movement because it supports optimal detoxification. When we move our bodies we stimulate blood flow, which brings oxygen to our cells and carries away waste. It can also encourage sweating and lymphatic flow, which further help support detoxification. Whether you choose walking, mobility work, or strength training daily movement will help you get the most from your reset. You can learn more from Brittany on Instagram @britteanderson or website www.awombinbloom.com

5) End your day with a cup of tea.  Either the Wildly Healthy or Woodland Roast- whichever you did not drink earlier.  Just a nice evening sipper with a good book, journaling, deep breathing, warm bath.. something that fills and nourishes your spirit.  Nourish all parts of yourself.  Try to have less social media and phone activities at night.

Day 4-6

Focus- Open the detox pathways and begin to release toxins stored in the body.  We are flooded with toxins daily such as pesticides and herbicides in our foods, chemicals we are exposed to almost every moment, and a multitude of other exposures that are very new to our species as well as all other species sharing this home called Earth.  Our bodies need some extra support in cleansing these things but we should start off in a gentle and nourishing way.

How-  An herbal blend of alterative herbs that are gentle and nourishing to the eliminatory organs.  Feed the liver, kidney, bowels and lymphatic system.  Feed them and gently nudge them to release build up.  Do not over push the system right now.  Its still about nourishing while beginning to send the signal of release.

Plan-

Tea- Blood Tonic herbal tea.  This herbal tea contains a special formula I created of alternative herbs and nutritive herbs that nourish and send signals of release to the liver and lymph.  It is gentle yet effective.

1) Continue beginning each day with a glass of warm water and ¼ lemon. Enjoy your morning beverage and a healthy breakfast.  Smoothies, oatmeal, chia pudding, etc.  Feels good to start the day strong.

2) Drink 1 bag of Blood Tonic each day.  Anytime of day is great.  Healthy snacks are wonderful throughout the day as well.

3) Keep a movement routine going.  Get that blood and energy flowing.

Speaking of movement, its important to have regular bowel movements, especially during a cleanse.  Here is a tip from Kassia Emily Fiedor, Holistic Nutritionist, Herbalist and Author,

“Intestinal Cleanser - If you need a little help with sweeping out your digestive tract during your cleanse (or any time), psyllium husks and flax seeds are excellent sources of fiber that bulk up, soften the stool, and help it move quickly through the colon. Mix these ingredients together before bed, & wake up with a refreshing elimination. Great paired in tandem with magnesium, which is the ultimate "relaxer" to loosen bowels. I love Natural Calm, a tasty magnesium drink, or Global Healing Oxi-Powder capsules. ½ tsp psyllium husks, powdered, 1 tsp flax seeds, powdered, 4-6 ounces of purified water.” You can learn more from Kassia at www.infusedholistickitchen.com or @infusedholistickitchen on IG.

4) Incorporate nature into your day.  It is proven that our emotional health as well as physical health improve with time spent outdoors.   Focus on nature as a whole and how you are a part of this amazing web.  Allow your family to grow exponentially as the wild ones make incredible kin.  Did you know just 15 minutes spent next to a Pine tree inhaling its amazing volatile oils can stimulate the immune system for up to 30 days.   Or that forest bathing (an act of BEing in a forest) is actually prescribed by doctors in Japan and is proven to reduce stress hormone production, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness.  There is an unhealthy disconnect to the world around us that is causing a great bit of illness in many forms.  The simple act of getting back outside, even if its for a walk on a sidewalk carries great health benefits.  This can be your movement for the day! And what are you starting to release here? The idea that we are separate from nature.  For us to be our healthiest, happiest, most whole selves, we need to embrace our wild and wonderful side as well.  You are so much bigger and greater than the walls around you.

Day 7-9

Focus- Begin releasing toxins and buildup more intensely

How- Stronger detoxifying herbs, more rest, deeply nourishing foods and continuing new healthy habits.

Plan-

Tea- Detox herbal tea is our strongest alterative blend.  It sends strong signals to the eliminatory organs to release that which does not best serve the body.  Its important that we nourished and strengthened the body up to this point.

1) Continue beginning each day with a glass of warm water and ¼ lemon.  Enjoy your morning beverage and healthy breakfast.  It is very important to eat during this phase.  Fiber is needed to be able to carry the released buildup through the system.  The bowels must be moving as well.  1-2 bowel movements per day are crucial here.  Other important things are plenty of fluids to flush the kidneys and plenty of movement to stimulate the lymph.

2) Drink 1 bag of Detox herbal tea each day.  Drink early enough in the day to be finished by dinner time.  Do not try and fast during this phase.  Fiber in food is very important.

3) Activated charcoal tablets can be very helpful here.  They act as a binder to the toxins released and help carry them through the system more effectively with less chance of reabsorption.  We have included 6 charcoal capsules in the set with the idea of taking 2 per day for 3 days away from food during this phase.

4) Continue healthy eating, movement, and nature therapy.

5) Here are some tips from Katie Braswell, Holistic Nutritionist,

“Nutritionist Tip 1: A Food to Include During and After Cleansing

Bone broth is extremely healing and full of key nutrients (which is why I often recommend this for cleanses and overall gut health!). Bone broth is especially helpful at rebuilding and sealing the gut lining - making it super helpful to promoting optimal gut health both before and after a cleanse. I should note however, that bone broth can be hard on those struggling from histamine intolerance (it can cause an upset stomach).  You can find her favorite recipe at this link, https://www.livewildbewell.com/blog-posts-all/how-to-make-the-most-gelatinous-bone-broth”

You could make a healthy bone broth and make several different soups with it as the base.

“Nutritionist Tip 2: Once Detox Pathways are Open, Add in Castor Oil Packs to Cleanse Liver + Continue Detox

Using a castor oil pack placed on the skin over the liver is a time honored tradition. Many schools of traditional medicine have used castor oil to help support liver function to improve detoxification / hormonal balance and to reduce inflammation in the liver. Castor oil is prized for its ricinoleic acid, a compound in castor beans believed to help the body rid itself of excess toxins. I like recommending that clients use the Queen of Thrones Castor Oil packs and do them roughly 2-3 times / weekly for 20-30 minutes over the liver. I personally like doing them right before bed to relax and prep the body for a great night's sleep!”

Day 10-12

Focus- Establish self care to carry forward.  Restore wellness, continue lymphatic flow, and aid in tissue repair.

How- Nourish the system, continue flow through the lymph and tonify tissues.  Continue healthy habits you have now created and enjoy.

Plan-

Tea- Care herbal infusion is a densely nutrient rich, filled with nervous system and circulatory tonics as well as immune system and tissue support for a whole body tonic that is a self care routine in a cup.

1) Continue beginning each day with a glass of warm water and ¼ lemon.  Enjoy your morning beverage and healthy breakfast.

2) Drink 1 bag of Care herbal tea each day.  Drink anytime of day and resteep as much as you like.

3) Continue your healthy habits.  Eating cleaner.  More movement and nature therapy.  Less screens, more books. Morning sun on the eyes.  Warm baths.  Hug a tree.  Release expectations and embrace joy and desired shifts.

4) Final step in this plan is to write yourself an achievable plan to carry forward.  What were you favorite things you did during this and want to continue? What made you feel the best? What made the most difference? How can you continue this with ease and flow?
