Respiratory system support when you need support getting the junk out of the lungs. Soothing yet expectorating support.

Purpose: This professionally formulated blend focuses on bronchial and lung health, providing the body support to get the mucous/sputum out of the lungs.

Pick me if: You have a cough and need help getting the junk out of your lungs while also offering some soothing.

Flavor profile: Minty, herbaceous

Organic Ingredients: Mullein leaf, Peppermint leaf, Elecampane root, Hyssop aerials, Coltsfoot aerials, Marshmallow root, Thyme aerials, Spearmint leaf Caffeine free

Understanding the Ingredients: I wanted to make the most universal cough blend that I could which can be tricky considering that some coughs can lean toward hot or cold and some can be wet or dry.  This formula is as well rounded as my 20 years of herbalism practice could put together in one cough formula suitable for most situations.  I chose the following:  MULLEIN- gentle expectorant herb that is also soothing to tissues since it is a demulscent herb. PEPPERMINT- aromatically decongesting and soothing. ELECAMPANE-one of my favorite all time expectorant herbs because it can work with a cough no matter what type it is! HYSSOP- gentle expectorant herb while also offering some antiviral properties.  MARSHMALLOW ROOT- very moistening and mucilogenous herb to soothe tissues and help thin the thick mucous. COLTSFOOT- powerful expectorant herb to assure the junk comes up.  THYME- slightly drying herb that is an expectorant, antibacterial, and antiviral.  SPEARMINT- brings a sweet minty aromatic aroma to open up as well as enjoy the brew.

Important Note: The is a common type of cough that will not respond to this tea.  It's known as an Irritative Cough.  This is typically when the body has dealt with an upper or lower respiratory tract infection, be it bacterial or viral, the tissues are often inflamed and irritated even after the “main event” is over. It is often seen as a lingering cough when you should be feeling better. The cough is irritable, dry, ticklish, spastic, and very little ever comes up. If anything does come up, it is usually stringy, white, or clear. This isn't a mucous issue, it's a swollen tissue issue.  The tissue needs soothing and anti inflammatory herbs to aid in calming the irritated tissues. The best tea we make to aid the body in this battle is PORCUPINE.

Not your ordinary teabag: Our hand-made teabags are large since they are a full portion to provide you with the intended benefit and desired support. Each one may be re-steeped several times throughout the day. The brewed tea may also be saved in the fridge over night and enjoyed chilled the following day. They are each handcrafted in perfect measurement within a microplastic free teabag and hand stapled with a stainless steel staple. This is slow craft herbalism with care.

{10 pack is 2.1oz and 3 pack is .63oz }

Loose leaf or bagged are both created in very small batches in our woodland teahouse from thoughtfully sourced ingredients and professionally formulated by Leah, owner and clinical herbalist.

HOW TO BREW:

Bagged:  Use 1 tea bag per 16 oz of 185 ºF water. Begin drinking when temperature is comfortable but never remove tea bag. Can recover several times with water for full benefit.

Loose Leaf: Use 1-1.5 Tb per 16 oz of 185 ºF water and steep a minimum of 30 minutes.  I really like placing loose leaf in a French press and pouring the tea off while recovering the herbs with water to allow an all day beverage with full steep power.

The longer these herbs steep the more potent the herbal infusion will be.  Add sweetness if you prefer.

Home Remedies: For a deep cough, I make an onion chest compress by heating onions just enough to get the scent flowing then place them in a cheesecloth and tie into a pack shape.  Place the pack on the chest assuring it's not hot enough to burn them.  Leave on for at least 10 minutes allowing them to smell the steam.

If a cough is spastic and its hard to catch your breath, an in-the-moment trick is to either run a steamy shower and breathe in the steam or open the freezer and breathe in the cold air.

Please note- if a cough worsens or is accompanied by a fever, consult your physician.

Earth first packaging: Our packaging is intentionally minimal and environmentally conscious.  The kraft bags holding our teas are 100% recycled and backyard compostable.  Our teabags are compostable, as well as the herbs inside, once the staple is removed.  They love to return to the earth.  We are constantly seeking ways we can do better and lessen our impact.
