GUNPOWDER IMPERIAL PINHEAD ORGANIC

A classic Chinese green tea famous for its distinct rolled appearance resembling tiny gunpowder pellets. This rolled shape helps preserve the slightly sweet, smoky, vegetal flavor that is released while the leaves unfurl during the steeping process. The resulting brew is a deep amber colored infusion and an excellent, full flavored choice for a daily sipper. Our current Pinhead offering denotes a higher grade, more finely rolled leaf, made from the youngest fresh leaf shoots, resulting in an even more satisfying experience.

Tasting Notes: A good gunpowder style green tea should be a nice balance of sweet, smoky, floral, earthy grassiness…and this one is.

Origin: China, Anhui Region

Preparation: Use a full Tb per 16 oz. of 175º water. I prefer this tea at around 3minutes (especially on the first steep) but this is one of the few green teas that is relatively forgiving and maintains a sweetness even when allowed to steep a little longer. So make it just how you like it. Good for at least 3 brews.

We do this completely by hand, just like our herbal blends, and each teabag contains approximately 4-5 grams of tea. That’s basically a full Tb of tea per teabag, the perfect size for a large mug or small tea pot. The 10 teabag package contains approximately 1.5 oz of tea.
